Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, had a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, as a recruit, for three years, on 9 February 1864, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania. He was enlisted by Lieutenant Shipley, and mustered into service by Lieutenant Burke. He was a private in company E. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 4]

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company. He was a private, in company E. [sources: 1, 3, 4]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in ward 15, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was working in a brewery. He was living with his (presumed) parents John and Eleanor Lindsay, and others. [source: 8]

On 5 December 1877, he died, at 2238 [?] Carlton Street, ward 15, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He died of delerium tremens. He was a widower, and was a driver. On 8 December 1877, he was buried, in Greenwood Cemetery, Knights of Pythias, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. [sources: 5, 6]
