Daniel Lohr

Before the war

He was born on 16 October 1827, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, to Jacob Lohr and Christina Kocher. [sources: date: 8, 13, 16; 3 (37 in 1865), 6 (44 in 1870), 7 (53 in 1880), 8 (72 in 1900), 14 (22 in 1850), 15 (31 in 1860). place: 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16. parents: 14, 15, 16]

In 1850, he was living in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Jacob and Christina Lohr (presumably his parents), and with Jacob Lohr (brother?), Mary Gardner, and George Lohr. He was a farmer. [source: 14]

In 1857 or 1858, he married Rosanna Crissey. She was born on 13 June 1840, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. They apparently had these six children:

In 1860, he was living in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was living with Tena Lohre (presumably his mother), with Rosanne (presumably his wife), and Martha A and Eliza (presumably their children). He was a day laborer, and owned $50 in personal property. [source: 15]

During the war

He also served in company E of the 171st Pennsylvania Infantry. [sources: 4, 5 (191?)]

He also served in company I of the 53rd Pennsylvania Infantry He was enlisted on 4 October 1862. He was discharged on 14 November 1864. [sources: 4, 5 (co.B), 12 (co.B), 13 (co. B, 24 Oct 62), 16]

He was drafted. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 11 March 1865. He was mustered in as a private, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He was a private in company B. [sources: 1, 3, 17, 18]

He was "not to be charged"--perhaps for lost equipment, when the regiment mustered out. [source: 2]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was a farm laborer. He was living with his wife, and five children. [source: 6]

On 28 October 1872, he made a statement supporting William Bowman's application for a pension. [source: 11]

On 31 May 1879, he successfully applied for a pension. [sources: 4, 5]

In 1880, he was living in Quemahoning, Somerest County, Pennsylvania. He was a laborer. He was living with his wife Rosanna and four children. [source: 7]

In 1890, he was living in Hooverville, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. [source: 12]

In 1900, he was living in Hooversville, Quemahoning Township, Somerset County, Pennsylvania. No occupation is listed for him. He was living with his wife Rosanna and a boarder. [source: 8]

On 2 March 1908, he died, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. He was survived by his wife, and children Newton (Ferndale), Mrs Martha Benford (Johnstown), Sophia (married to Charles Donahue, of Garrett), and Margaret (married to Noah Weaver, of Hooversville). On 31 March [?] 1901, Rosanna Lohr, his widow, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 4, 5]
