When he enlisted, he was a tobaconist (3, 4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 4-1/2 inches tall, and had a light complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (3, 4).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 25 September 1861 (1, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Sinex (3). He was mustered in service by Captain Dye (3). He was a private, in company D (1, 6).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (5).

He reenlisted as a veteran volunteer on 26 December 1863 (1, 4). He was enlisted for three years, at Bealton, Virginia, by Lieutenant Swan (4).

On 3 July 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 July 1865 (1).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1). He was a corporal, in company D (6).
