91st PA: Albert Manuel

Albert Manuel

Before the war

He was born in 1836 (2, 6; 3 (29 in 1865), 7 [35 in 1870], 12 [22 in 1850--probably a mistake; note that he supposedly had attended school within the year], 13 [25 in 1860]). He was born in Pennsylvania (3, 7 [New Jersey], 12, 13).

In 1850, he was living in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (12). He was living with Ann M Manuel (presumably his mother), Emma, Harriet, Elizabeth, Henry, and Victoria Manuel (presumably siblings), and with Lucius [?] Wright (12). He was a farmer, and owned $3,000 in real estate (12). (I assume the real estate is actually his mothers.)

In 1860, he was living in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (13). He was living with Marie Manuels (presumably his mother), with Emma, Harriett, Albert, Henry, and Victoria Manuels (presumably siblings), and with two others (13). He was a farm laborer, and owned $200 in personal property (13).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, grey eyes, and red hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted from Hatfield (?), Pennsylvania (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 2 March 1865 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yerkes (3). His service was credited to the Sixth Congressional District (3). He was a private in company G (1, 14, 16).

He received clothing worth $36.82 (3).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4). He was a private, in company G (14, 16).

After the war

He married Catharine [unknown family name] (9). She was born in May 1836, in Pennsylvania (9). They apparently had the following five children (7, 8, 9 (5 in 1900, 3 living), 10 (5 in 1910, 3 living)):

In 1870, he was living in Newton Township, Camden, New Jersey (7). He was a clerk in a store (7). He was living with his wife Kate and children Charles and Ida (7).

He died on 27 December 1874 (2, 5). He was buried in the Christ Evangelical Cemetery, Orvilla, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (2, 6 [Orvilla Cemetery, in Hatfield]).

In 1880, his widow, Kate, was living in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (8). She was living with her children Ida, Johanna, Ulysses, and Henry (8).

On 28 June 1889, his widow, Catharine Manuel, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 15).

In 1890, he [presumably his widow] was living in Hatfield, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (post office Lansdale) (4). He had been wounded in his left foot (4).

In 1900, his widow, Catharine, was living in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (9). She was living with her children Joanna and Harry W (9).

In 1910, his widow, Cathy [??], was living in Hatfield Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (10). She was living with her children Harry and Joanna, and a servant (10). She was a farm manager (10).

In 1920, his widow, Catharine Manuel, was living in Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (11). She was living with her daughter Ida Schrader and Ida's daughter Sylvania (11).

In 1929, his widow, Catharine A Manuel, was buried, in Orvilla Cemetery, Hatfield, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (6). She was born in 1834 (6). (She is buried with Albert and with Joanna M Manuel (1871-1912) (6).)
