When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-3/4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and black hair (2).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 20 November 1861 (1, 2). He was mustered in as a private in company I (1, 2, 3-4).

He deserted on 19 July 1862, from Alexandria, Virginia (1, 2). He was a private, in company I (3-4).
