In 1860, he was living in ward 12, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was living with Maria (presumably his wife), and Fanny (presumably their daughter). He was a laborer. [source: 15]
When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair. He had a scar over his right eye, and a blue star [?] on the back of his left hand. [source: 7]
