His name may have been Henry K. Nearhoof, Henry B. Nearhoof, or Henry K. Neunhoof (2).

Before the war

He was born in Warrior's Mark, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (3, 5, 6, 9). He was born on 4 August 1830 (9, 11, 14; 3 (35 in 1865), 5 (29 in 1860), 6 (39 in 1870)).

On 18 November 1855, he married Elizabeth Bogar ("Lib"), in Blair County, Pennsylvania (9). They had seven children, all of whom were alive in 1910 (9, 13):

In 1860, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with his wife Elizabeth, and three children (Amos, Andrew, and Isaiah) (5). He was a day laborer, and owned $150 in personal property (5).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 5 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and dark hair (3).

During the war

He was drafted (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 16 March 1865 (1, 3, 4). He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd (3). He was mustered in as a private in company I (1, 14, 15-18).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865, with his company (1, 3, 4). He was a private, in company I (15-18).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Snyder Townshp, Blair County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Eliza and seven children (Amos, Andrew, Isaiah, James, Laura, Fannie, and Joshua) (6). He was a laborer, and owned $1000 in real estate and $500 in personal property (6).

In 1880, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Elizabeth, and their seven children (7). (In 1900, Elizabeth had had seven children, all of whom were alive (8).) He was a farmer (7).

In 1890, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (post office: Olivia) (4). He was "worn out no good" (4).

On 3 February 1891, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (10, 19).

He died on 11 October 1897 (9, 10, 11, 14). He was buried in the Bald Eagle Cemetery, Bald Eagle, Blair County, Pennsylvania (9, 11, 14).

On 23 October 1897, his widow, Elizabeth Nearhoof, successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (10, 19).

In 1900, his widow Elizabeth was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania, with her son Amos and his family (8).

In 1910, his widow, Elizabeth Nearhoof, was living in Frankstown Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (13). She was living with her daughter Annie and Annie's family (13).

His widow, Elizabeth Boger Nearhoof, died on 3 January 1914 (12). She was buried in Bald Eagle Cemetery, Bald Eagle, Blair County, Pennsylvania (12).
