Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 2-5 [?]/8 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, gray eyes, and brown hair (3).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 14 January 1864 (1, 3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Stretch (3). He was a private in company A (1, 8-11).

On 27 April 1864, Sinex asked that he be sent to the regiment (2).

On 14 August 1864, he returned to the regiment from hospital (6).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1). He was a private, in company A (8-11).

After the war

On 27 July 1883, he applied successfully for a pension (4).

He died on 27 January 1892, of locomotor ataxia (4, 7). He was married (7). He was a glass blower (7). He died at, or was buried from, 1415 East Montgomery Avenue, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). On 31 January 1892, he was buried, in Palmer Ground, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7).

On 30 January [?] 1892, his widow, Mary A Nickel, applied successfully for a pension (4).
