William Norton

Before the war

He was born in 1838/39 (4 (24 in 1863), 5 (24 in 1863), 6 (24 in 1863)). He was born in Ireland (4, 5, 6).

When he enlisted, he was a laborer (4, 5, 6).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue (or black) eyes, and brown hair (4, 5 [blue eyes], 6 [5'7-1/2", blue eyes]).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 4, 5, 6) He enlisted and was mustered into service on 14 July 1863, in the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 4, 5, 6). He was enlisted for three years (5, 6). His service was credited to the 22nd congressional district (5, 6). He was in company M (8).

He was transferred on 20 July 1864 from company M of the 62nd Pennsylvania to the 91st (1, 4). On 21 July 1864, he, and the other members of companies L and M, were assigned to company G (2). On 22 July 1864, they were transferred to company K, following brigade orders to assign them to the smallest company (3). He was then present, as a private (3). He was a private in company K of the 91st (1, 8, 9).

On 30 April 1865, he was detailed at the division hospital (7).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1). He was a private, in company K (9).
