He enlisted and was mustered into service on 23 January 1862 (1, 4, 6). He was enlisted for three years, at Washington, DC, by Lieutenant Murphy (4, 6 [Philadelphia PA]). He was a private in company I (1, 6, 7-10).
He was detailed in the Provost Guard, Harrisburg Pennsylvania, by an order dated 25 March 1863 (2). He was still there on 13 June 1863 (2).
He was discharged on 9 March 1865, when his term of service expired (1, 3 ["dropped as discharged"], 4, 6). He had served for thirty-eight months (5). He was a private, in company I (7-10).
He lived in Philadelphia after the war (6).
On 16 July 1870, he was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (5). He had a disease of the brain, but was not receiving a pension (5). The Home register reports that "his mind is impaired and he is subject to fits"--"so impaired as to prevent him from understanding an oath" (6). He was a laborer (6). He was single (6).
He died on 7 June 1872, at the Central Branch of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers (5, 6). He died of apoplexy (6).
