When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He was a substitute. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 13 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by Captain Foster. He was a private in company C. [sources: 1, 2, 9]

After the war

In 1875, he was living on Laurel Avenue, 16th ward, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a basketmaker. [source: 7]

In 1883-1884, he was living on Juniper, near Laurel Avenue, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was a basket maker. [sources: 5, 6]

On 13 May 1884, he died. He died of suicide by taking Paris Green (a rodenticide and insecticide). He lived on Juniper Street, in the 16th ward, of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. He was married, and was a basket maker. He was buried in the German Lutheran Cemetery. [source: 8]
