Before the war

He was born in March 1825 (9; 3 (40 in 1865), 5 (25 in 1850), 6 (35 in 1860), 7 (45 in 1870), 8 (54 in 1880), 9 (75 in 1900), 10 (85 in 1910)). He was born in Pennsylvania (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10).

In 1850, he was living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with Henry Peters (presumably his father), and Henry, Barbara, and Catherine Peters (presumably his siblings) (5). He was a laborer (5).

In 1853/54, he married Eliza [unknown family name] (9, 10). In 1900, she had had nine children, eight of whom were alive (9). In 1910, she had had ten children, nine of whom were alive (10).

In 1860, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Eliza, and with William, Hiram, Howard, and Zachariah (presumably their children), along with two other people (6). He was a farmer, and owned $800 in personal property (6).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 3). He was mustered into service as a private on 28 February 1865 at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4, 11). He was a private in company F (1, 13-14).

He was discharged near Washington DC on 29 April 1865 or on 15 May 1865 by special order (1, 2 [29 Apr], 3 [15 May], 4 [10 Apr], 11 [14 May]). He was a private, in company F (13-14).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Eliza, and with William Hiram, Howard, Zacharian, George, and Jacob (presumably their children) (7). He was a farmer, and owned $1,200 in personal property (7).

In 1880, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with his wife Eliza, his children Hiram, Jacob, Eliza, Marda [?], and Hansom, and a servant (8). He was a farmer (8).

In 1890, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (post office: Gurnesey) (4).

On 4 April 1891, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (11, 12).

In 1900, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (9). He was living with his wife Eliza, his daughters Eliza and Mabel [?], and with a hireling (9). He was a farmer (9).

In 1910, he was living in Butler Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Anne E, and his daughter Eliza (10). He was a farmer (10).

He died on 4 December 1917, at Guernsey, [Adams County,] Pennsylvania (11).
