Before the war

When he enlisted, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (5).

During the war

He enlisted on 2 August 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4, 5). He was mustered into service as a second lieutenant on 20 November 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 3, 4, 5, 6 [1st lt]). He was second lieutenant of company F (1, 9-11).

He resigned on 4 March 1862, on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). He was second lieutenant of company F (9-11).
