Henry Possinger

Before the war

He was born in July 1844 (8; 4 (21 in 1865), 7 (36 in 1880), 8 (55 in 1900), 9 (65 in 1910), 10 (16 in 1860), 11 (26 in 1870), 12 (75 in 1920), 15 (6 in 1850)). He was born in Monroe County, Pennsylvania (4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15).

In 1850, he was living in Jackson Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (15). He was living with John and Catharine Possinger (presumably his parents), and with Elizabeth (presumably his sister) (15).

In 1860, he was living in Jackson Township, Monroe County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with John Possinger (presumably his father), Susannah Possinger (perhaps another relative), and Tilmon, Milton, and Mary Possinger (presumably his siblings) (10). He was a laborer (10).

When he enlisted, he was a lab[orer] (4).

Description

When he enlisted, h+e was 5 feet 7-1/2 inches tall, and had a ruddy complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (4).

During the war

He was mustered into service in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 10 March 1865 (1, 2, 5, 13). He was enlisted for one year, at Easton, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yohl [?] (4). He was a private in company A of the 118th Pennsylvania (2, 13 [company E]).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania to company F of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3). He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 16).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 4, 5, 13). He was a private, in company I (16).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in South Abington, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (11). He was a farmer (11). He was living with John Mipose [?] and his family (11).

In 1876/1877, he married Sarah [unknown surname] (8, 9). This was her second marriage, and his first (9). In 1900, she had had 12 children, 6 of whom were alive; in 1910, 5 of her 12 children were alive (8, 9).

In 1880, he was living in Parsons Borough, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (8). He was a laborer (8). He was living with his wife Sarah, children Wilson, Clinton, Lara, and Nora, and a boarder (8).

On 8 July 1882, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 13).

In 1890, he was living in Hanover, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (post office: Wilkes Barre) (5).

In 1900, he was living in Hanover Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (9). He was a day laborer (9). He was living with his wife Sarah, stepchildren Wilson, Clinton, and Laura Trumfetter, and children Monroe, Nora, and Mary (9).

On 6 May 1907, he again applied for a pension (13).

In 1910, he was living on River Road, Hanover Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (10). He was living with his wife Sarah, son Monroe, and stepson Wilson (10). He was a laborer, doing odd jobs (10).

In 1920, he was living at 112 Front Street, Nanticoke Borough, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (12). He was not working (12). He was living with his daughter Mary Jones and her family (12).

On 10 October 1922, he died, at Wilkes-Barre, [Luzerne County,] Pennsylvania (13, 14) or at his home at 132 Oxford Street, Lee Park (14). He was buried in Hanover Cemetery, Hanover Green, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania (14). He was survived by his son Monroe Possinger and daughter Alfred Doll, and by two step-children, Wilson Frounfelder and Amzie Beebler (14).
