During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 24 September 1861 (1, 3). He was mustered in as a private, in company D (1, 3, 4 (corp)).

He deserted on 15 October 1861 (2) or 21 November 1862 (1)--perhaps from Camp Chase, Philadelphia (2, 3 [2 Oct 61]). He was a corporal, in company D (4).
