He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 5 September 1861 (1, 5). He was mustered in as a private in company I (1, 5, 7-11).

On 9 October 63, he was reported regained from missing in action (3).
He was discharged at Poplar Grove Church, Virginia, on 2 November 1864 by general order (1, 4, 5, 6). He was a private, in company I (7-11).
