In 1850, he was living in Upper Dickinson Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania (8). He was living with Gibson and Anna Ross (presumably his parents), and with Sarah Ross (presumably his sibling) (8).

In 1860, he was living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with Gilson and Anna Ross (presumably his parents), and with Sarah, Elmira, Adaline, Susan, Edwin, and Frances Ross (presumably his siblings) (7). He had attended school within the year (7).

When he enlisted, he was a mason (3).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 11 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (3).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 3). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 24 March 1865 (1, 3). He was enlisted at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Eyster (3). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 9).

He died on 12 June 1865 at the division hospital, in Washington, DC, of typhoid fever (1, 2, 4, 6). He was a private, in company H (9). He was buried in the National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia (1).

After the war

On 7 December 1900, his father, Gibson E Ross, unsuccessfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (5, 6).
