He enlisted and was mustered into service on 19 September 1861 (1, 8). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Colonel Burr (8). He was a private in company H (1, 11-12).
On 14 September 1862, he was detailed by General Tyler as a teamster (5).
On 22 March 1863, he returned from being detailed with the brigade teams [?] (4).
On 1 June 1863, he was transferred from being detailed as a teamster, to being in the Artillery Brigade as a teamster (3).
He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (10).
On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 38 men who had less than fifteen months to serve who were unwilling to reenlist (2). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (6).
In September (?) 1864, he was still officially detailed as a teamster, since 14 September 1862 (5).
He mustered out on 2 November 1864 when his term expired (1, 7, 8, 9). He was a private, in company H (11-12).
