John Roxworth

Before the war

He was born in March 1833 (7, 8; 2 (32 in 1865), 4 [27 in 1860], 5 [36 in 1870], 6 [46 in 1880], 7 [67 in 1900]). He was born in Germany (4 [Germany], 5 [Bavaria], 6 [Saxton (?)], 7).

He immigrated to the United States in 1844 (7). He was a naturalized citizen by 1870 (5, 7).

He married Elizabeth [unknown family name]. She was born on 10 December 1835, in Pennsylvania (8). They apparently had at least these children (4, 5, 6, 7):

In 1860, he was living in Menallen Township (post office Bendersville), Adams County, Pennsylvania (4). He was living with his wife Elizabeth and children George, John, and Samuel (4). He was a day laborer, and owned $400 in real estate and $125 in personal property (4).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 2). He was mustered into service as a private on 28 February 1865 at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (1, 2, 3, 10). He was a private in company F (1, 11).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 2, 3, 10). He was a private in company F (11).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Menallen Township (post office Wenksville), Adams County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his wife Elizabeth and children George, John, Samuel, Anna, Mary, Andrew, and William (7). He was a farm laborer, and owned $600 in real estate and $300 in personal property (7).

In 1880, he was living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Elizabeth, and children John, Samuel, Anna, Andrew, William, Rachel, and Harry (6). He was a farmer (6).

On 13 February 1890, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (3, 12).

In 1890, he was living in Wenks[ville], Adams County, Pennsylvania (10).

His wife Elizabeth Jane Rexroth died on 14 July 1889, in Adams County, Pennsylvania (8, 9). She was buried in Wenksville Cemetery, Wenksville, Adams County, Pennsylvania (8).

In 1900, he was living in Menallen Township, Adams County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his son Harry and Harry's wife Ella (7). He was a widower (7). He was a farmer (7).

He died on 27 July 1901 (3, 8). He was buried in Wenksville Cemetery, Wenksville, Adams County, Pennsylvania (8).
