He was born in 1836/37 (4 (24 in 1861)).

During the war

He was enlisted and mustered into service in company G of the 90th Pennsylvania Infantry, commanded by Captain A J Sellers, on 17 September 1861 (1, 2, 4). He was enlisted for three years, by Captain Starr (4). By mistake, he was entered on the list for company G of the 91st Pennsylvania, commanded by Captain E G Sellers (2, 4).

He was transferred to company G of the 90th Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 2, 4).
