In 1850, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his (presumed) parents Jacob and Catharine Russel, and with (presumed) siblings Mary, Isaac, John, Abraham, Samuel, Daniel, James, and Rosanna. He was a laborer. [source: 13]

In 1854/55, he married Rosan Putt. She was born in 1833, in Pennsylvania, to [unknown] Putt and Elizabeth Eicher. They apparently had these ten children:

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair. [source: 2]

During the war

He was drafted. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 15 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd. He reported for duty on 15 March 1865. After the war

In 1870, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife RosAnna, and children Mary, Sarah, James, William, and George. He was a farmer, and owned $3,500 in real estate, and $800 in personal property. [source: 7]

On 21 July 1880, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 4, 5]

In 1880, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Rosanna, and children Mary, Sarah, Elizabeth, David, Martha, James, William, and Susan. He was a farmer. [source: 8]

In 1890, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (post office: Shybeaver). He had had rheumatism and lung disease. [source: 3]

In 1900, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Rosan, and children James and Alice. He was a farmer. [source: 10]

On 13 December 1908, he died, in Liberty, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. He died of endocarditis, with age contributing. He was a farmer. He was buried in Saint Pauls UCC Church Cemetery, Russellville, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 11, 12]

On 15 [?] April 1909, his widow, Rosan Russell, applied successfully for a pension. [sources: 4, 5]

On 23 October 1922, his widow, Rosanna W Russell, died, in Liberty Township, Bedford County, Pennsylvania. She died of chronic myocarditis (duration 6 years), with arteriosclerosis (duration 7 years) contributing.
