Before the war

He was born in 1839/40 (6 (23 in 1863), 7 (23 in 1863). He was born in Butler County, Pennsylvania (6, 7).

When he enlisted, he was a helper (6, 7).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 7-3/4 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair (6, 7).

During the war

He was drafted (1, 5, 6, 7). He enlisted for three years, and was mustered into service on 10 July 1863 in the 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry (1, 6, 7, 11). His service was credited to the 22nd congressional district (6, 7).

He was wounded in May or June 1864 (5).

He was transferred on 20 July 1864 from company L of the 62nd Pennsylvania to the 91st (1). On 21 July 1864, he, and the other members of companies L and M, were assigned to company G (2). On 22 July 1864, they were transferred to company K, following brigade orders to assign them to the smallest company (3, 5). He was then absent, as a private (3). He was a private, in company K (1, 14).

On 9 September 1864, he returned from being absent wounded (8).

On 27 April 1865, he was promoted to corporal, effective 1 April 1865 (1, 4, 5).

In June 1865, he was detailed in the provost guard at Corps Headquarters (12).

He mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 11). He was a corporal, in company K (14).

After the war

On 12 November 1879, he applied successfully for a pension (10, 11).

He died on 11 February 1902 (11). He was buried in the South Side GAR Cemetery, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania (9, 13).
