He died of heart disease, in camp near Clouds Mills, Virginia, on 15 or 20 August 1862 (1 [20 Aug], 2 [15 Aug], 3 [20 Aug]). He was a private, in company D (4). He was buried in Alexandria, Virginia, in grave 171 (1, 3 [25 Aug 62?]).
