He enlisted and was mustered into service on 27 or 29 November 1861 (1, 3 [29 Nov]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by C L Zinn (3). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 6). He had rifle number 38 (3).

He was discharged at Alexandria VA on 23 May 1862 on surgeon's certificate of disability (1, 2, 3). He was a private, in company H (6).

After the war

On 14 February 1863, he applied unsuccessfully for a pension (4, 5).
