When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (2).

During the war

He was drafted (1). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 16 March 1865 (1, 2, 9). He was enlisted for one year, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Lloyd (2). He was mustered in as a private in company I (1, 11).

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Snyder Township, Blair County, Pennsylvania (5). He was living with Catharine (presumably his wife) and with W and Abram (presumably their children) (5). He was a collier, and owned $1,000 in real estate and $300 in personal property (5).

In 1879, he died (9). He was buried in Bald Eagle Cemetery, Tyrone, Blair County, Pennsylvania (9, 10).

On 21 July 1890, his widow, Catharine Smith, applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 8).
