Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a light complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (4).

During the war

His service was credited to the Ninth Congressional District (4). He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry on 16 February 1863 (1, 4 [18 (illegible) 63], 5, 6 [11 July 1863], 8). He was enlisted for three years (4). He was mustered in as a private (5). He was drafted (1, 5).

On 2 June 1865, he was transferred from the 118th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry to the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 3, 5 [1 Jun]). He was a private in company I of the 91st Pennsylvania (1, 6 [co.E], 9).

On 31 May 1865, he went on a furlough, which expired on 9 June 1865 (2). He returned on 8 June 1865 (2).

He was mustered out on 10 July 1865 with his company (1, 4, 5, 6). He was a private, in company I (9).

After the war

On 4 May 1904, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension (6, 8).

On 18 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (6).

In January 1920, he was living at 310 East Main Street, Mount Joy, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his stepdaughter Catharine, her family, and his son (or step-son?) Fenny [???] Smith (7). He was not working (7).

He died on 5 March 1920, at Mount Joy, [Lancaster County,] Pennsylvania (6).
