He enlisted and was mustered into service on 9 November 1861 (1) or 19 November 1861 (3). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Hamburg (3). He was a private in company G (1, 5-6).

He was transferred on 4 December 1861 to company A (1, 4).

He deserted on 2 April 1862 (1, 3) or 6 May 1862 (2), from Washington DC (2) or Alexandria Virginia (3), by going to Philadelphia (2). He was a private, in company A (5-6).
