He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private in company K on 17 October 1861, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 7, 8 [16 Jul 61], 16, 17, 20-21).
He was detailed as carpenter on 12 February 1863, reporting to the division quartermaster (3).
He fought in the battle of Gettysburg (4).

On 28 July 1890, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (14, 16, 17).
On 12 February 1907, he again applied for a pension (16, 17).
On 9 April 1909, he died, at 2467 Natrona Street, 28th Ward, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of apoplexy (11 days duration) with exhaustion contributing (5 days duration) (6 [9 March], 15 [9 Apr], 16, 18 [9 Apr]). He was a widower (18). He was a carpenter (18). The funeral was held on Monday at 2467 Natrona Street (at 32nd and Cumberland Streets), the home of his daughter, Mrs Hannah Gilroy (15). Members of the Winfield Scott Post, Number 114, GAR, were invited to attend the funeral (15). On 12 April 1909, he was buried in Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania (6, 15, 18).

Relatives and friends, also Winfield Scott Post, No 114, GAR, are invited to attend the funeral services, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs Hannah Gilroy, 2467 Natrona st (32d and Cumberland), on Monday, at 1 PM. Interment at Hillside Cemetery.
