William Tries or Treece

Before the war

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had blue eyes, brown hair, and a fair complexion. [source: 14]

During the war

He was drafted, from the 13th subdistrict of the 17th Congressional District. He enlisted and was mustered into service, at Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 15 March 1865. He was mustered in as a private in company B. [sources: 1, 3, 4, 5, 13, 14, 15]

He was listed on a Muster and descriptive roll of a detachment of drafted men and substitutes forwarded for the 91st Regiment Pennsylvania infantry, dated Draft Rendezvous, Carlisle, Pennsylvania, 29 March 1865.

He was reported present on the company muster rolls for March-April and May-June 1865. [source: 14]

He seems to have been charged with lost equipments, perhaps when the regiment mustered out. [source: 2]

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865. He was a private, in company B. He was due pay from his enlistment, but owed the US $11.72 for clothing, and $6.00 for arms, equipments, etc. retained. [sources: 1, 3, 4 (16 Jul), 5, 13, 14, 15]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Mary, and their children RoseAnna, Matilda, Alexander, Margaret, James, Leonard, Solomon, Franklin, and Mary. He was a miner, and owned $500 in real estate and $200 in personal property. [source: 10]

In 1880, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his wife Mary and children Matilda, James, Leonard, Solomon, Franklin, and Mary. He was a farmer. [source: 11]

On 26 April 1883, he successfully applied from Pennsylvania for a pension. [sources: 5, 6]

In 1890, he was living in Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania (post ofice: Shybeaver). He had had sunstroke. [source: 4]

On 13 April 1895, his wife, Mary, died, in Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. She was buried in Russellville Cemetery (or Saint Pauls UCC Church Cemetery), Russellville, Hopewell Township, Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania. [sources: 7, 12]
