He was born in 1835/36 (7 [25 in 1861]).
When he enlisted, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7).
He enlisted and was mustered into service as a private in company B on 12 October 1861 at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 4, 7, 9, 12).
He was wounded on 13 December 1862 at Fredericksburg, Virginia (1, 7). On 4 May 1864, he was discharged because of those wounds, at Washington, D.C. (1, 4 [discharged 13 Dec 62], 8, 9).
The regiment received an official report of his death, and reported on 8 February 1863 that he had died of his wounds in hospital at Washington, DC (3). The morning report of 14 February corrected the error (5).
In May 1864, he was reported absent wounded since 13 December 1862, in a hospital in Washington [DC] (10).
Lentz reported on 9 July 1864 that the regiment had been informed that he had been discharged (2) He was a private, in company B (12).
On 12 May 1864, he applied successfully for a pension (4, 11).
