When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9 inches tall, and had a dark complexion, grey eyes, and dark hair. [source: 2]

During the war

Abraham Weigle and Benjamin Franklin Weigle, who also served in the 91st Pennsylvania, may be his brothers. [source: 11 (re Abraham)]

He was a substitute for Jesse Weigle. He enlisted and was mustered into service on 23 March 1865. He was enlisted for one year, at Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, by Captain Eyster. His service was credited to the Sixteenth Congressional District. He was a private in company G. [sources: 1, 2, 3, 12, 20]

After the war

In 1870, he was living in Huntington, Adams County, Pennsylvania. He was living with his parents Emanuel and Catharine Weigel, and others. He was a laborer on a farm, and owned $350 in personal property. [source: 15]

In 1874/75, he married Mary Agnes [unknown family name]. She was born on 12 May 1853, in Pennsylvania. They had one known child:
