Before the war

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 6 feet tall, and had a dark complexion, hazel eyes, and dark hair (4).

During the war

He was enlisted on 11 August 1862, for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Captain Sheets (1, 4, 6). He was mustered in on 31 August 1862, as a private in company H, by Colonel Reiff, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (1, 4, 7-9). He was paid $29 in bounty and premium (4).

He was wounded at Fredericksburg, Virginia, on 13 [?] December 1862, and lost his arm (1, 4).

He was discharged on 27 March 1863, from US General Hospital, Washington, DC, because of his wounds (1, 2, 3, 6). He was a private, in company H (7-9).

After the war

On 1 April 1863, he applied unsuccessfully for a pension (5, 6).
