Robert Wilkinson

Before the war

He was born in 1839/40 (5 (22 in 1862)). He was born in Donegal, Ireland (5).

When he enlisted, he was a farmer (5).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, blue eyes, and light hair (5).

During the war

He enlisted and was mustered into service on 12 August 1862, or possibly on 12 August 1863 (1 [63], 5 [62], 6 [62], 10 [12 Aug 63]). He was enlisted for three years, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by Lieutenant Gregory (5). He was a private in company F (1, 11).

He fought at the Battle of Gettysburg (7).

On 30 December 1863, Sinex reported that he was one of 30 men who had more than fifteen months to serve who were willing to reenlist (2). On 2 January 1864, he was transferred to the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry, while those eligible were on veterans' leave (3).

He was wounded on 8 May 1864 at Laurel Hill, Virginia (1, 8).

He was discharged near Washington DC on 1 June 1865 by general order (1, 4, 6 [30 May 65], 10). He was a private, in company F (11).

After the war

On 9 August 1882, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (9, 10).

In 1890, he was living in the 22nd ward of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He had been wounded on his left side (6).

He again applied for a pension on 21 February 1907 (10).

He died on 9 October 1916, at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (10).
