Before the war

When he enlisted, he was a soldier (2, 3, 4).

Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 9-1/4 inches tall, and had a fair complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair (2, 3, 4).

During the war

He also served in company I of the 6th US Cavalry (5, 6). He also served in company K of the 4th US Infantry (6). He also served in company D of the 37th US Infantry (6). He also served in company H of the 16th US Infantry (6).

He was a substitute for W Hutchison [?] (1, 2, 3, 4). He was enlisted and mustered into service on 7 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 4, 6). He was enlisted for one year, at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, by J H Foster (2, 3, 4). He was a private in company K (1, 7). His service was credited to the eighth subdivision of the 22nd congressional district (2, 3, 4).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 6). He had served for 43 months (5). He was a private, in company K (7).

After the war

On 14 October 1887, he applied successfully for a pension (6).

On 22 July 1893, he was admitted to the Pennsylvania Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers and Sailors (5). He was admitted from Brownsville (5). He was a currier (5). He was a widower (5). He had a gunshot wound of his right hand, etc. (5). He was receiving a pension of $2 per month (5).
