Description

When he enlisted, he was 5 feet 8 inches tall, and had a light complexion, grey eyes, and light hair (2).

During the war

He was a substitute (1, 2). He enlisted and was mustered into service on 28 March 1865 (1, 2, 3, 8). He was enlisted for one year, at Norristown, Pennsylvania, by Captain Yerkes (2). He was mustered in as a private in company H (1, 10-11).

He mustered out with his company on 10 July 1865 (1, 3, 8). He was a private, in company H (10-11).

After the war

In 1867/68, he married Sarah [unknown family name] (6). In 1910, she had had three children, all of whom were living (6).

In 1880, he was living in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (4). He was living with his wife, Sarah Zeigler, and three children (Emma, Stuart, and Harry) (4). His occupation was "flour feed" (4).

In 1890, he was living at 2664 Braddock Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (3).

On 26 February 1891, he applied successfully from Pennsylvania for a pension (8, 9).

On 7 August 1908, he again applied for a pension (8).

In 1910, he was living at 808 Tioga [?] Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (6). He was living with his wife Sarah and two grandchildren (6). He was a watchman, for Bell Telephone Company (6).

In 1920, he was living at 1942 Bork [?] Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (7). He was living with his brother-in-law Charles Prince (7). He was a commercial [illegible word] for a cigar manufacturer (7).

He died on 9 March 1924, at Atlantic City, New Jersey (8).
