I have a journal written by William Taylor who is the son of Daniel Taylor who was married to Elizabeth Rouse.

William Taylor died in San Francisco, Ca. and is buried in Grass Valley, Nevada Co., Calif. You have the correct date. Rachel Hamilton, his first wife, was born 23 Oct 1808, I believe you have 1810 listed.

Rachel Ann Taylor b. 10 Oct 1833 Miss. Married Mr. Jennings This last baby was the cause of her mother's death. Rachel Hamilton died the day after Rachel Ann was born. An aunt raised the baby and she really never lived with her father.

William married Catherine Jane Cameron on 10 Sept. 1834 in Carrolton, Miss. He writes that some people criticized him for marrying so soon after his first wife's death but he needed someone to look after his four young children so he found a second wife. William writes that they were very well treated on the ships and at Ft. Laramie because the young waiter and the soldiers took a fancy to Azaline. She married Alfred Johns March 1855 in Penn Valley, Nevada, Calif. She died 7 Aug 1895. Hugh D. Taylor b. 2 May 1842 "The Mill" Carroll, Miss. He died 18 Oct. 1853. A mysterious high fever and swelling of the throat. This death just about broke William's heart.

Gertrude Leah Taylor b. 14 July l846 Carrolton, Carroll, Miss. Gertrude was a seven year old when the family came to California over the old California Emigrant Trail. She married Charles Barker 21 Nov. 1867. They had three children. My grandfather was the middle son. They lived in Grass Valley, Nevada, Calif. Gertrude was a member of the Emmanuel Episcopal church and had all of her sons baptized and confirmed in that historic church. ( The church is celebrating its 150 birthday in April of this year and we are publishing a book with its history and there are many mentions of Gertrude and her sons. The comment "Rarely seen in church" is written by Charles Barker's name. Gertrude died 10 Dec. 1929 She had remarried a Bennett A. Penhall in 1910.

Edgar Mayo Taylor b. 8 May 1854 Penn Valley, Nevada, Calif. The only one of the brood to be born in California. ( His mother was now 44 years old!!!Imagine!!) Edgar had two marriages. The first to a woman named Anna Gertrude, they had two daughters in 1882 and 1884. I don't know what happened to her but he married Adelaide Virginia Dorsey 12 Sept 1895 and had a daughter who died in her second year of meningitis. Edgar died 22 June 1933 in Burlingame, San Mateo, Calif.

Now, I have probably given you too much information, but if feel it is necessary to at least change the entry for the children of William Taylor. I guess no one has ever connected Elizabeth Rouse to her family in Dobbs Co. I hope this is useful for you. I am about to finish transcribing the journal so that it can be sent by computer to your website. It is long and I am not sure you will want all of it. Let me know what you think. Thank you very much for taking this information from me. Sincerely, Sally Knutson
