Amelia Johanna Block was born in Germany, June 20, 1859, and passed away at her home in Hartwick, on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 1926, at the age of 67 years, five months and five days. She came to America in 1871, and began working out continuously, besides caring for her mother during her illness. At her mother's death she assumed the responsibility of caring for her brothers and sisters, she being the eldest of a family of nine children. She was united in marriage to Ferdinand D. Block, May 12, 1881, moving on a farm on which they resided the past 44 years. She leaves to mourn her departure her husband and four children, Mrs. Alma Rupp, Mrs. Grace Gray, Eugene F. Block and Loren V. Block; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; one sister, Mrs. Chas. Newton Sr., of Brooklyn; Martin Block of Montrose, S. Dak.; Fred C. Block of Edgemont, S. Dak. Mrs. Block obeyed the Gospel of Christ, June 1911, to which she was a faithful member. She was a true mother, kind neighbor, and a faithful wife. Brother Burley F. Black, of Ottumwa, conducted the funeral service and burial at Malcom. Messrs Cecil and Joe Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Miller of Searsboro were the singers.
