Ray Lewis - I have been searching for an ancestor from 1893 De Leon that
said he had a Baxter or a Bascom Ray that was a relative.
Will (J. W. Ray)
had smallpox when he was pretty young and he mentioned a shed and a peach
orchard on the property where he was at the time. He also had a picture of
a young woman with Mary written on the back. I posted that picture on the
DeadFred.com website as Mary Ray if you care to look. We really don't know
if Ray was her last name. He thought she had died around 1958 or 59.
I'm wondering if he is related to William Baxter Ray & Mary Emaline Macon.
Thank you for any consideration.
J. Mitchell - Newton, Russell, Sharp, Talbott
Is Thelma Lucille Newton the daughter of Claude C.
Newton and Mary Russell? They lived in Cisco in 1930 & in Illinois in
1920. Thelma married Henry Grady Sharp in 1931 and had children: Mary,
Henri, and Grady (Buddy). Mary's sister, Nellie Genevieve, married Earl
Talbott and moved to Lubbock, but I can't locate them.
Ginie -
Carroll, Hall, Johnson, Fisher
Verda Johnson had the initial M. She is the daughter of Alice Adella Carroll and
James Robert Johnson who married in Erath Co, TX June 9, 1901. Verda was
1st cousin to my mother, Vera. Alice and my grandmother were sisters. I have
pictures of Alice as a young girl and as a young woman. I am happy to exchange
information. Would like to know what happened to Verda's brothers, Mark L.
Johnson and Paul B. Johnson. My mother said the nicest things about them.
Thanks!
Melissa Steele - Cogburn, Holland. I have several photos of people with these surnames and related and would be willing to share them with others interested in them.
Guy Moore - I am trying to find anyone who may have known my great grandfather, William Lewis Moore, born 09/13/1874 and died 08/25/1963. His son, John Clyde Moore, was my grandfather. As far as I can tell my grandfather was raised in DeLeon. He later moved to Grand Saline, Texas, where he raised his family. My great grandfather stayed and eventually died in DeLeon; he is buried at the DeLeon Cemetery. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Alison Smith - Part of my genealogy hobby is returning photos "home". I have a photo labeled J. D. Ham and son Ottis from the late 1800s, taken at De Leon, Tx., and labeled "Charley Ham, youngest son of Wm. and Margaret Ham (J. D. Ham's father)". If these are your family, they are yours. This is my hobby and they are free, this is not a sales pitch. I have sent out photos home and luckily received some, too. There are additional photos that might be related, of Willie and Luther Owen, with children Hugh and Joe, and a grandmother Owen with ? Ruth, from Dublin, Tx. 1-440-838-5719
Ellen Norris - I have a copy of a
letter that was found in our Norris family possessions and we are unable to
place the people mentioned in this letter. I will gladly forward a copy
of the letter to anyone that may have an interest or anyone who might shed
some light on who these people mentioned in the letter are. The letter
is dated June 27, 1899 from Heath to Bro and Sister. It's on the letterhead
stationary of E. B. Walker & Co., General Merchandise, of De Leon, Texas.
It is this store that I presume Heath refers to when he states he will soon be
out of the store.
The sister seems to be named Larrah, and he reports on the poor health of Aunt
Wanda and Aunt Tilda. And Heath mentions getting a letter from Hill and
Florence. Heath also reports that J. R. Gilmore's mother died and that
the measles have struck that area very bad. He reports that J. R.
Gilmore's brother's wife was very low and not expected to live. He reports
also on a District Conference, where he helped entertain the delegates. There
were 70 to 100 delegates and preachers in attendance, and he (Heath) hosted
the Dublin preacher and his wife.
Heath talks about Jim wanting to go to a place whose name I can't make out -
possibly Ind. territory, but Heath doesn't want to, because it's too far to go
by wagon. Imagine!!
The only lead to further information is Heath's promise to send a copy of
Mother's obituary from the Advocate. Presumably a newspaper. Does this
resonate with anyone? I would appreciate your help.
THANKS
