William D Mullen of Fayette City

 William D Mullen. The late William D Mullen, one of the oldest and most highly respected citizens of northwest Fayette county, was born in Cumberland county, Penna, January 6, 1787. He established in 1809 the first hat-making establishment of Fayette City (Cookstown) and was successfully engaged ifor years in that line of business. He was a Free Mason, a democrat and was a patron of the GENIUS OF LIBERTY for over half a century. He was for years a justice of the peace and was a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church. He was a sober, honest and industrious citizen.

 He married Miss Margaret Graham and they had a family of eight children. Mrs Mullen died March 25, 1871.

 The oldest son, Robert Mullen, was born December 19, 1814, and was reared to the hatting business but engaged in the cabinet making business for several years. In 1850 he engaged in mercantile business and died June 22, 1887. He was a prominent Mason and has filled all the important offices of the "Blue Lodge."

 Robert Mullen married Miss Elizabeth Allen. They had one child: Sallie Mullen, wife of Roscoe Thirkill.

 After the death of his wife, he married Miss Margaret Bently, and by the second marriage had two daughters: Frances Mullen married Joseph L Cooper; and Othelia Mullen married October 28, 1867, to William McCune, the latter was born in Cumberland county, Penna, in 1844 and died in 1882. Mrs McCune has two sons: Robert M McCune and Edward McCune.

Robert Mullen, after the death of his second wife, married a third time. His third wife was Miss Elizabeth Shupe who with her two children, Robert Mullen and Emma Mullen, resides at Fayette City.

 Robert Mullen's store is successfully conducted by its present proprietors, his daughter Mrs Othelia McCune and her eldest son, Robert McCune, one of the young businessmen of Fayette county.
