Robert HAGERTY 1835-1917
One of  the first HAGERTY generation to be born in American, he was the son of Irish immigrant Samuel HAGERTY and his wife Elizabeth BLANEY/BLAYNEY HAGERTY, a Pennsylvania native.
Robert was born on the old family homestead located in Fayette Co., PA, with the family soon moving to Carroll Township, Washington County.  At the age of 17 Robert began to learn the stone-cutting and masonry trade, for which he received $3.00 a month during his first year of apprenticeship.  During his second year in the trade he earned $4.00 per month, and the wages for
the third year earned him .75 cents per day.  At the completion of his apprenticeship he started his own business and over the course of his lifetime he built his assets to include 50 acres of land in Carroll Township, and 25 acres in Fallowfield Township.  In his adult married life, the family  lived where the Mon-Valley hospital now stands.  His public service included being elected as President of the Carroll Township School Board.

*Elmira AMMON HAGERTY 1837-1912

A written descriptive of the Horseshoe Baptist Church notes: "located at what is now the intersection of route 88 and the road to Donora, PA... One of the members, Mrs. *Margaret (HAGERTY) COULTER, attended the Horseshoe Church when a small girl.  Some other members of this church were Rebecca AMMON SCOTT, *Elmira AMMON HAGERTY, etc..."

Both Robert and Elmira HAGERTY; and all of their children are buried in the Monongahela Cemetery in Washington County, Pennsylvania
