" It seems that James and Elizabeth disinherited Martha after she married John Henry Kyle! The source for this is the 1979 history of Houston County,Tx, and I haven't yet seen the book myself although Tom gave me the page refrences. As you know, James and Elizabeth were quite wealthy for the time and place. It seem that John Henry was the overseer for their plantation, and as such was a "hired hand" and unsuitable as a marriage prospect. Nevertheless Martha married him anyway.and they disinherited her. That would explain her absence from the will."
"The story gets even juicer, John Henry left Martha after several children were born, and since SC had no divorce laws, he moved to Ohio, got a divorce there, married again, and had several more children.
Again his marriage went sour, so he returned to Martha Ann, and begat yet more. I believe that my direct
ancestor, James Henry Bankhead Kyle, was from this second go-around, but until I can find some primary records this is simply supposition."
