James Greer Bankhead, son of George Bankhead and Jane Greer , was born April 27,1812 in Giles Co., Tennessee. He married Susan Fleming Hollis March 09, 1837. He died December 31, 1860 in Sulligent, Alabama. Susan Fleming Hollis, daughter of John Hollis and Letitia Holliday , was born January 25, 1822 in Moscow, Lamar Co., Alabama. She died December 16, 1894 in Sulligent, Lamar Co., Alabama.

Susan Fleming Hollis lived, before her marriage with her parents at their plantation at old Moscow, Marion County,Alabama. Her father, John Hollis, was a Colonel of the militia, 6'4" tall, who is said to have brought a library of classics to his wilderness home.

Her grandfather, Captain John Hollis, b. in Fairfax Co.,Va.in 1751,served under General Francis Marion during the Revolutionary War, having moved to Fairfield, South Carolina,where he died in 1836.
