DNA Testing

DNA testing can be another tool to help you in your research.
It can confirm results of your paper research, or may provide clues for future study.
It can be used to confirm or disprove a connection between two families. Although you
cannot pinpoint a common ancestor from the test results alone, with a proper paper
trail you may be able to do so.

The Y-DNA test is the one primarily used for surname research.
As the Y chromosome is only found in men, only they can take this test.
Women will need a close male relative to take test for them.

The Maternal DNA test is available for both males and females,
to uncover information about your mother, and her female ancestors.
To verify your suggested geographic origin, and your maternal deep ancestral ethnic origin

If you are thinking of having DNA testing done, or just want to know more about it, check out these sites.
They have Tutorials and other information that describe the process much better than I can.
