Jay Wilbur Jonas ROTH, 71 died April 28, 1981 Sargent, Custer Co. NE.


Services were held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Rhoad Funeral Chapel for Jay ROTH. The Revs. Harold KOELLING and Leslie LEWIS officiated. Pastor Wayne HASSELQUIST was soloist and was accompanied by Dorothy LEWIS, Organist.


Edward KRISS, Frank RUZICKA, Larry POLAND, Floyd SKEEN, Joe KNOTT and Rolans RUPPEL served as honorary pallbearers and active pallbearers were Gary COFFMAN, Brad GRIEBEL, Bud SHAW, Danny WHITE, Bud WYKOFF and Carl BAILEY.


Elks Lodge #188 of Broken Bow was in charge of graveside services. Internment was in the Douglas Grove Cemetery at Comstock.


Jay Wilbur Jonas ROTH was born March 18, 1910 at Comstock and passed away this life at the Sargent Community Hospital April 28, 1981.


Jay's early life was with his parents, Mr. & Mrs. Clifford Roth and older brother Ralph in Comstock. He was baptized in the Congregational Church of Comstock at the age of one year. His mother died when he was six years old in 1916. He then lived with his uncles and aunts, Mr. & Mrs. William ROTH, Mr. & Mrs. Percy SPEER and his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Wilbur SPEER, all of the Comstock area.


At the age of 12, he went to live with his father and step-mother, the Clifford ROTHs of Sargent, which was Jay's home town the remainder of his life.


Jay's education was obtained in the Comstock area. At te early age of 16, he procured a driving license, and started to work for his uncle, Frank SPEER, helping fo operate a fleet of long distance trucks out of Sargent. He later obtained his own trucking business at the age of 23 in 1933.


February 20, 1936, he was united in marriage to Dixie Inona Geiser RALSTON at Taylor. Two daughters joined joined this union, Winifred Lavone and Dixie Lee.


Jay trucked for fifty-two years and loved his occupation. He enjoyed giving the needy a helping hand whenever possible. He was well known near and far. He was a life-time member, also a charter member of thirty-six years of the Elks Lodge #1688 of Broken Bow.


Jay was a good provider and made a good home for his family. His home was always open to those needing a meal or a place to stay. His thoughtfulness of his family and home are greatly appreciated by his wife Dixie and daughters.


He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife Dixie, daughter and sin-in-law, Winifred and William McNEIL of O'neill, and daughter Dixie Lee TROXEL of Sargent, five grandchildren, three great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, an aunt, Mrs. Zella RICKETT of Warenton, OR. and a host of other relatives and friends.


Preceding him in death were his parents, Clifford & Evie ROTH, a brother, Ralph ROTH, son-in-law, Eddie TROXEL and an infant nephew.
