Our Family Roots Are Deep and Many! : BAUER
[Previous Page] [Next Page] [Up] [Home Page]

With the name BAUER meaning FARMER in German, there are almost as many of them in Germany as there are SMITHs in the U.S.A. Luckily we knew exactly where our ancestors originated and the research was fairly easy.

Charles BAUER was born as Karl Bauer in Germany and his brother, Fred BOWER, was born as Michael BAUER. Although the two brothers lived less than a mile apart in the Sara area of Ridgefield, Clark County, Washington, for about 40 years, they were not friends and never spoke to each other.

Charles Bauer is the father of the three children in the picture. Elden, Edna and Clarence are now deceased but all left descendants in the southwest part of Washington state. There was one other child, Carl. He was still living at the old family home when he died September 2, 2002.

Fred Bower

Michael Bower, the 9th child of Michael F. Bauer and his wife, changed his name to Fred Bower when he came to the U.S. in the 1890s. He became the father of 12 children, several of whom are still living in the area near Vancouver, Washington. There are many of his descendants in Oregon, Washington and California.

William Frederick & Rose Bauer

The picture above belongs to the Bower/Bauer family of Clark County. We are almost positive now that it is a picture of William Frederick BAUER and his wife Rose (maiden name unknown). They were married about 1925 and he drowned at Detroit, Michigan 28 Mar 1926. Contact Pat Bauer if you have any information about this couple.

Below is a photo of William Frederick in 1917 - probably as a high school graduate. Compare the two photos and see if you agree that the fellow in the picture of the couple is indeed our William Frederick.
