My James Family Genealogy

I really should say my James Families. My mother descends from Carey and Lydia James while my father descends from William James. I believe William and Carey were related but do not know how at this time.

It appears Grandpa Carey was born in North Carolina and died in Missouri. (I have no proof of this, however.) Many of his children came to Arkansas including his daughter Martha (my ggg-grandmother) and George William James. George settled on the Alum Fork of the Saline River probably before 1830.  My husband and I visited the "George James Place" April 2010 and took some photographs. It is said that the house was built by George. We are not certain that it is old enough to have been his house but would love to have thoughts from others. The house was first built of squared logs. The brick for the fireplace and foundation is said to have been fired on the farm. The fireplace has now fallen down, but the brick is still there. Eventually, the house was covered over with a clapboard siding and painted white. A second side was added with a dog trot and then a back portion was added which was probably the kitchen. The area still has the milk house, smoke house, what appears to be a chicken house and, of course, the out house (a one-holer). Photos may be viewed on this page. I also have a link to photos taken of Geurin (also known as Ewell-Geurin) Cemetery. A transcription of the cemetery may be found at an off-site link here. They may be copied for your personal use but not to be published in any medium.
