Whole Peas to be replaced with Split Peas.

Admiralty 3 May 1856.

The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty, with the view of improving the Diet of the Crews of H.M. Ships and Vessels, have been pleased to direct that Split Peas shall be issued generally instead of Whole Peas, and in the following proportions, viz. :-

  Seamen at full allowance Supernumeraries at two-thirds allowance Troops Women Children under 10 years

1/8th 2/9th 2/9th 1/6th 1/12th

The change is to commence as soon as the present supply of Whole Peas shall be exhausted, and the Paymasters of H.M. Ships are to insert Split Peas on their General Victualling Accounts in a separate column, carrying to the General Statement the Balances of each Description, and showing upon their Victualling Accounts the date upon which the change has been adopted.
