Caulking of Topsides of Ships.

Circular No. 444.
Admiralty, 28th August, 1860.

The Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty are pleased to direct that, in future, the seams of the topsides of ships after caulking, are not to be tilled in with putty, cement, or any composition of the sort, experience having shown that the use of such materials is destructive of the caulking.

By command of their Lordships,
W.G. Romaine.
To all Commanders-in-Chief, &c.
