A ship having been appropriated for training a limited number of Boys, to be hereafter employed as Carpenters' Crews for Her Majesty's Navy, my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty have been pleased to establish a new rating of:

Carpenter's Crew, 2nd Class,

with the pay of one shilling and three pence a-day, to be given to such Apprentices under training on their attaining the age of 18.

These Artificers will be sent to sea at the age of 19, and are to be rated as Carpenter's Crew, if found qualified, after one year's service ; but if not sufficiently advanced in their trade, they are to be continued under instruction in the 2nd Class until they reach the age of 21.
