Dorset Education Committee
This Committee, formed under the Education Act 1902 consists of 24 Members (Chairmen and Vice-Chairmen of the Council and Finance Committee ex-officio). The work of this Committee is of great importance. It deals with all the Elementary and Secondary Schools in the County. The County Council itself levies the rate; but the expenditure is the business of the Committee. Weymouth and Poole, being boroughs of over 10,000 population are not under the authority of the County Council, but have Education Committees of their own. Dorchester, E A Pope (representing the borough for elementary education) Bridport, and other smaller boroughs are, however, merged in the County for all Educational purposes.
